LoCo Leaders Share 10 Reasons Why They Chose Their Current Careers
Haley LaBatt CTA | Visitors Bureau Director
Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life?
I have always had the desire to give back to the community that gave me so much as a little girl. While I was in college, I started out as an intern for the Bellefontaine Examiner. I loved every second of it. I was doing exactly what I was meant to do by educating my community on what was happening in Logan County. As my love for education grew, I later ended up graduating from The Ohio State University with a degree in Early and Middle Childhood Studies. I landed a job in Marysville teaching Pre-Kindergarten. I loved teaching, but still felt the pull to be making more of a difference in my own community. In 2018, I heard the position of Tourism Director was available at the Logan County Chamber and I jumped at the chance to try something new. Now I greatly enjoy a career that combines my two passions: Education and Journalism and I’m just right where I am meant to be.

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life?
I have always wanted to be in a field where I can help improve the world around me, and I’m very lucky to have that opportunity every day at the Chamber. Each day is unique and presents a whole new set of opportunities to help local businesses grow and improve. I am grateful for each of our Chamber members for allowing me the chance to get to know them and their business, and to see how I can make things better!

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life? I wanted to give back to my community. There was a huge need for help with technology and I quickly found a way to help my community while also providing for my family.

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life?
It all started with a love for craft beer and a void in our local community. We saw opportunity when we would drive to Columbus and see several people we knew from Logan County in the breweries and bottle shops. Brewfontaine quickly became more successful than myself or my 2 partners ever imagined, and now we are taking it a step further with our expansion, The Syndicate, which will focus on catering, events, and upscale dining. We quickly became known for our food as much as our beer.

Well I was asked to help at the chamber when they were down an employee, I had helped with many events and put on events for other businesses so that's why they wanted me. After taking on that role and asked to stay on full time, I realized that my passion for Indian Lake could help so many and I was so welcomed and appreciated and needed in our community I accepted the role of the President when needed.

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life? My mother-in-law, who has been in real estate forever, convinced me to get my real estate license twenty years ago. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. I LOVE what I do and can't imagine doing anything else.

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life?
In my previous career as a community/business manager with Dayton Power & Light, I fell in love with helping communities and businesses grow and improve. That is really what economic development is about. That is when I decided to pursue a full-time career in economic development. As for this particular position at the Logan County Chamber, I landed here really by God’s direction. My wife’s family and most of my best friends from college all live in Austin, Texas, so we thought this career change would take us to Austin. After lots of very intentional prayer, God made it clear that he wanted our family in Logan County instead. I love what I do and the people I get to work with each day!

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life?
My passion is small business and small towns. Helping business owners realize their dreams of owning and running a successful business, and by extension contributing to the overall vibrancy of a community and a downtown, is what I wake up for every morning. These last few months have been really tough for a lot of small business owners and the communities they call home, but I know that by working together, we can get through it and come out the other side stronger than ever before.

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life?
So honestly doing what I do now is what I have always done. The only thing that ever changed was position. I couldn’t imagine doing something else with my life nor being happy doing something else. I love serving and being a part of the community. Also, I love food especially pizza and Italian so why not!

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life?
I always knew from a young age that I wanted art to be in my life. I grew up with this deep passion for drawing, painting, and just making things with my hands. When I headed off to college (BGSU - Go Falcons!), everything clicked and I knew that graphic design was the perfect fit for me. 12 years later, I still love my job. My passion is helping individuals and small businesses find themselves and to represent them in a way that is creative, unique, and professional. We love our clients!
